So I’m sitting at home in Seattle and it’s pretty damn boring. Good thing I sleep better when I’m not in my own bed. I’m not sure why, but I can only get about 7 hours of sleep at home, but I can get 9+ when I’m away. It’s weird.

Me and my parents all play quite a bit of freecell, which is the most popular computer game in the world I’m told. I notice that the game on Windows ME allows you to select a random game between 1-32000. This is extremely far from being a randomly shuffled deck. Many Many orders of magnitude short, depending on the implementation. Speaking of games, emetri has been raving about PlanetSide so I have signed up for the beta and hopefully I’ll get to try it out. My question is, with the advent of the monthly fee for Massively Multiplayer games, how many of those games can the average gamer buy and keep playing, 1? 2? 3? It can’t be more than that. at an average of about $12-$15/month, that becomes pretty steep if you subscribe to 3. What this means is that only a few MM games will dominate. Planetside shows promise because it’s not really like all the other MM games, because it’s a FPS and not an RPG like almost every other MM game.. But in the MMORPG genre, besides EQ, there will be Star Wars Galaxies, probably World of Warcraft and maybe only one or two more to hold gamers. It’s bad news for the huge number of MMORPGs in development by second tier development/marketing companies.

So I had a pretty decent workout today. Probably my first since the race. Hopefully I’ll be in better shape before alcatraz.

So I was watching ER tonight and in the middle of it, I say to Tracy, “Oh my god! It’s Emil.” I had heard that one of my parent’s friends sons Emil Lin had been trying to make it as an actor for several years. I heard that he had gotten a bit part on General Hospital, but they must have meant ER. I had thought it was him playing one of a group of med students, but I had to go back a couple times on my Tivo and even then I wasn’t sure. His part was small enough that I didn’t think it would be credited, but lo and behold at the end of the show, I saw “Emil Lin as Bruce”. Tracy’s comment was “I bet his parents would have been more proud if he was a real doctor”

So I tried migrating from blogger to moveable type. The data migration seemed to go ok, but then i decided I didn’t want to spend the time to get the templates imported and everything. I may try it again next time I want to change the look and feel of my site, which will be approximate 2007. Maybe it isn’t that hard and I’m just being lazy, wouldn’t be the first time.

I’m also trying to learn some jboss because I’m starting to feel like a tool for not having a job. It’s been about 3 months now. It’s not like I need to be Mother Theresa or the President or something, I just need to apply myself at something to feel like a productive member of society. On the other hand, I have friends who have been not working for much longer than I.

I was considering going home to Seattle next weekend because Tim’s going to be there for a few days.

My last few days training have been pretty mediocre. I’m lacking motivation and my aerobic capacity has suffered since the race. I decided against going to Rick’s wedding, so tracy went and bought him a gift.

When I went into SF the other day, I thought I’d check out John Cobb’s Bicycle Sports new San Francisco store, on 1890 Market St. It’s a really nice bike shop, especially for triathletes, they have more time trial bikes than i’ve seen at one store, they probably had about 15 on display and another 10 regular road bikes. The guys there seemed nice and knowledgeable about tri stuff and positioning and fit. It’s certainly the nicest tri shop I’ve seen yet, but I haven’t really seen many.

Looks like my brother Dave is a wanna be. Here’s here’s his blog. I’m still using the ‘ole Blogger, but he’s using Moveable type. Moveable type does have the advantage of not requiring a third party, it’s just download and install locally. Also their default template has a really nice clean layout.

So I started using dice.com and they are a pretty good job web site. I had also been using Yahoo!’s Hotjobs, Career Builder, Monster.com. People are actually starting to contact me about my resume. I had sort of given up hope on the online job application thing, but maybe it’s turning around.

I had lunch with Alan Steremberg yesterday. Things seem to be going at The Weather Underground. They just moved into some new offices right next to the ballpark.

Filed my annual extension for my taxes. Yesterday I went to Planet Granite in Belmont. They have a surprisingly full featured regular gym. I was surprised that as a climbing gym, they have a weights, cardio equipment and an aerobics room almost as big as my regular gym. And there were people there that seemed to have no interest in climbing at all.

Sunday we had a bbq, and quite a few people showed up. We hiked around Edgewood park for about an hour and a half, and then of course Tracy cooked a ton of great food for everyone. She tried a new trifle recipie that was basically a chocolate cake on top of a layer of brownie with a layer of raspberry spread between and whipped cream on top. That was pretty good.

So I had dinner with my old friend Kevin Cummins this week. He was interviewing for a position at Northrup Grumman in Monterey. I was pretty surprised that he’s considering moving out here, after having settled down in Austin. Anyways, he told me news of our old various friends. Nothing too exciting really. He was really happy with the choices he’s made and being a father, so that was good for him.

I changed up my picture gallery to use the PHP Gallery. It’s nice and flexible, and has a lot of features, should be pretty neat.

Sigh. Still no job. I need some motivation. I reformatted my resume today, and I think it looks better. Unfortunately, it’s not particularly easy to move that into a Word Doc, so I’ll have to spend some time figuring out how that’s going to work.

I did however find this super cool online HTML-to-PDF converter that formatted my resume beautifully.
