Ugh. Time to diet again. I tipped the scales at 178 the other day. That’s pretty depressing. I don’t do fad diets like Atkins or anything. I just try to eat less, with varying degrees of success I do love the carbs though. Since I’ve been so busy at work, I’ve been missing a lot of my workouts(I sort of try to follow Multisport Training Plans) and there’s free snacks and drinks at work too. So a combination of not working out and free calories right in front of me all day has gotten me into a record territory for my weight. Only 22 lbs until I can enter the Clydesdale division at some triathlons. Beefcake, here I come.

I’ve been super busy at work. I work 12 hours most week days and less on weekends. We’re under a lot of pressure right now to deliver our product, so I don’t expect it to last forever. Everyone is very optimistic right now and things seem to be going very well. At least for a company with no product. Not too much going on otherwise. When I have free time, I watch Tivo’ed coverage of The Tour de France, but I’m not seeing many episodes. My training is going really badly right now. I’m only getting about 3-4 workouts in per week and I’m getting pretty fat because I sit in my desk all day and eat a lot of garbage. My motivation to eat healthy is pretty low right now. Oh well, at least I have a job I enjoy at least.

So in the past couple of weeks, several random unrelated people have told me that they are playing kickball in leagues. My reaction: wtf? Didn’t we grow out of kickball back in elementary school? Is there some new kickball craze that I’m just not in tune with? One of the guys actually showed me that he was a card carrying member of the World Adult Kickball Association. I guess I’m just behind the times. Now I really feel old.

My brother had a baby.

Our son, Nathaniel Stephen Chen, was born 7/7 at
1:00PM. Both mom and son are doing well, recovering
from an exciting and eventful day.

He tips the scales at 6lb 13ounces, and is a towering
20 inches. Yao ming, look out!

Tim

He was named for both his grandfathers. Congrats Timuchan.

A guy I know from my days at Blue Martini. Has created some poker software. It’s called Tournament Poker and it’s pretty good. I only tried out the demo, but it’s the #4 selling game on Amazon right now. If you want, order it on amazon. I ran into him the other day and he said that they are going to do a retail distribution as well, so look for it at Best Buy and other merchants.

So I had dinner with my old high school classmate Amy Wilkinson. She has taken a pretty interesting career turn. She will be starting as a White House Fellow in a short while. She was describing the interview process and it was more intense than anything I’ve ever heard of. I was half expecting her to say that they had to do a full body cavity search, maybe they did, but she just didn’t mention it. But she’s pretty excited about it and it sounds cool, so congrats to her.

Also at dinner were Bo Brustkern and Tom Deem. Bo is an associate at a venture capital firm here on the peninsula. He commutes back and forth from Colorado where he wants to move to permanently. Tom and his girlfriend/wife live in San Francisco and he works at a law firm, but not exactly doing legal work.

I heard from Amy that my old friend Bowen Gardner was in a severe cycling accident where he got hit by a car, and now he might never walk again. I need to get in touch with him and see how he’s doing.
