I spent most of this weekend playing Guild Wars an online game designed by some veterans of Blizzard, the most respected game developer in the industry. It was only a beta, but it had a very polished feel. I will probably buy it when it comes out if anyone I know decided to play it. It has some pretty unique aspects to it, it is a MMORPG, but it has a pretty strong player vs player component. From what I saw, the PvP content was better than the quest and soloing engines. In that respect, it reminds me of Dark Age of Camelot, but it's got better graphics. There's also no monthly fee, so I won't feel obligated to play, which is good. World of Warcraft sold over 600k copies and is well on its way to becoming the biggest MMORPG ever.
I looked at Nagios today. It is a network and application monitoring tool formerly known as NetSaint. It looks pretty cool. Lots of modules for things like ping, SNMP, processes and other nice features for notifications like email and pager interfaces.
